17-Mile Drive

The 17-Mile Drive is a spectacular toll road running through the Monterey Peninsula. About half of it runs along the coast. Plan to spend
approximately three hours along the drive. Sights along the drive
include the following:
- Spanish Bay, a popular picnic area along the
southern shore of Pacific Grove
- Huckleberry Hill, where fruit can be picked in the
summer
- The Carmel Mission
- The Tor House, an impressive rock house built by
poet Robinson Jeffers from 1919 to 1957
- The Lone Cypress, one of the most photographed trees in
the world
- The Spyglass Hill golf course
Many large estates and mansions can also be found along the drive.
