San Luis Obispo
San Luis Obispo is a small city in a valley of the Santa Lucia mountains
along the California coast, about halfway between
San Francisco and
Los Angeles. The city was
developed around Mission
San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, founded in 1772 by Father Junipero Serra.
Other attractions in town include the Fremont Theater, the Marine Mammal
Center, and the Farmers' Market. San Luis Obispo is also home to the
California Polytechnic Institute (Cal Poly).
Hearst Castle is 43 miles (69 km) north of the city.
Events in town include the Olympic Flame Relay, the Tour of California
bicycle race, Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and a Christmas parade.
