Santa Barbara County Courthouse

The Santa Barbara County Courthouse is a beautiful old Spanish-style building on Anacapa Street in Santa Barbara. It was built from 1926 to 1929, shortly after the 1925 earthquake which destroyed the original Greek-revival courthouse. The Assembly Room contains murals depicting various periods of California history. The courthouse is still in use. It is also a popular site for weddings.
The courthouse consists of four buildings and encompasses an area of 150,000 square feet. A jail wing, which is no longer in use as a jail, is seven stories high. The courthouse also has a spatious garden, a beautiful fountain, and a clock tower.
Visitors are allowed anytime during business hours, 8 AM to 5 PM from Monday through Friday, or on weekends from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Free docent tours are also given daily except Sundays beginning at 2 PM.
