Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is the last old-style amusement park on the
West Coast. It offers a wide variety of rides, games, and other attractions
along the beach. The main attraction is the Giant Dipper roller coaster, a
wood-frame coaster built in 1924 by Arthur Looff which is now a historic
landmark. The track is one mile long and the car travels at 55 miles per
hour. The boardwalk also features a merry-go-round with horses and chariots
hand-carved by Looff's father in 1911. The park also features 27 newer rides
and an Art Deco dance hall. The newest ride is WipeOut, completed in 2006
and featuring music written by the boardwalk's own audio specialist, Donaven
Stabb.
