Autopia

Autopia is one of the few attractions left that was part of Disneyland original 20 attractions when it first opened on July 17, 1955. There are other versions of this attraction that can be found. One of these is at the Magic Kingdom and is called Tomorrowland Indy Speedway and another would be at Tokyo Disneyland and is called Grand Circuit Raceway.
Before the park opened, the cars were tested without bumpers and were almost completely destroyed by the test drivers. Even after the bumpers were fitted around the vehicles, there were still problems with collisions due to the fact that there were no guide rails as of yet.
In 2000, Disneyland replaced both existing tracks with a new and much larger Autopia which was sponsored by Chevron. The old cars were replaced by three different kinds of cars. These were Dusty the off-road style car, Sparky the sports car and Suzy the Volkswagen Beetle-style car.
Autopia is located in Discoveryland at Disneyland Park. Here your child has a chance to make one dream come true by putting their foot down, pressing on the pedal, grabbing the steering wheel and driving. There is a metal rail that runs along the middle of the lanes that stops the cars from veering off course, but the rail will still allow for control for at least a foot or two on either side.
Although Autopia is great fun for younger children, it is not unusual to see the big kids out there revving up the engines along the tracks.
