Catalina Island

Santa Catalina Island, more commonly known simply as Catalina Island, is a beautiful beach-lover's paradise. The island is located just 22 miles (35 km) south-southwest of San Pedro on the mainland near Los Angeles. The easiest way to get there is by ferry from Long Island, which takes about an hour.
Avalon is the main town on the island. Many hotels are located here, overlooking the bay. Chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. purchased the island in 1919, who built most of the largest buildings, including the Wrigley Memorial & Botanical Gardens as well as the spectacular Avalon Casino.
Other fun places to visit on Catalina Island include the small town of Two Harbors as well as Little Harbor, West End, Blackjack Mountain, El Rancho Escondido, the Airport-in-the-Sky and Nature Center, and Lover's Cove and Marine Reserve. Visitors can board a daily tour bus to see most of these sights.
