Mission San Juan Capistrano

If you are fond of old and historical places, the Mission San Juan Capistrano is something that you must see. Named after St. John of Capistrano, an Italian theologian in the 14th century, this place was founded in November 1, 1776 but was later abandoned due to unrest in the area. The Great Stone Church was constructed in 1796 and the structure was completed ten years thereafter. An earthquake in 1812 destroyed the original structure of the church.
The Mission San Juan Capistrano, the 7th of the 21 missions in California, is considered the birthplace of Orange County. This place celebrates the merging of cultures between the Native Americans, the Spanish, the Mexicans and the Europeans. During its early years, the Mission was the center for industry, agriculture, education and religion. This place has hosted some of the most significant events in the history of California. At present, Mission San Juan Capistrano stands as a reminder of the glorious past. With most of its important structures still standing tall and proud, this place is indeed something to behold.
Visitors can find several interesting artifacts within the walls of the mission. The lush gardens and cool fountains that are cloistered behind old adobe walls are quite peaceful and serene. One can sit in the gardens of the Mission for hours to meditate and pray. Holy Mass is celebrated in the Church inside the cloisters at designated hours.
