Old Town Pasadena

Old Town Pasadena provides an interesting glimpse into the past. Just a few minutes drive from the downtown Los Angeles area, this place located in the San Gabriel Valley provides a refreshing change from the busy modern life of the metropolis, with its mixture of old buildings and tall palm trees.
The Old Town, as it is fondly called both by residents and visitors, was declared as a Historic District under the Pasadena Charter in 1980. The idea was to revitalize the oldest part of the city and restore it to its former glory. Although this part of the city had not really been abandoned, almost everything around it had deteriorated and was considered economically dead at that time.
To restore the old Town to its former glory, the renovation or remodeling of the buildings and structures in the area was closely monitored and scrutinized by the city commission. All materials, styles and colors of the buildings and structures have to reflect the designs of the period between 1925 and 1940. The renovation efforts were indeed such a big success that at present, the Old Town, with its magnificent old style buildings, has become one of the tourists’ attractions in the area. Like many other places in Pasadena, Old Town Pasadena boasts several upscale restaurants, posh outdoor cafes, a shopping mall, a movie theater, nightclubs, and comedy clubs. The nightlife in the area is very active, so you will never get bored during the night in Old Town Pasadena.
