Jack London Square

Located across the Oakland Estuary, Jack London Square is a popular tourist destination in the Oakland. Named after the famous author Jack London, Jack London Square is an important commercial center of Oakland known for its restaurants, cafes, dance clubs, movie theaters, galleries and shopping plazas.
Jack London Square has several tourist attractions to offer. Located at the foot of Broadway Street, Jack London Square has fifteen square blocks of commercial and residential complexes that offer a variety of recreational activities including shopping, strolling, dining and enthralling ferry rides on the waterfront. Apart from these, various special events are organized around the square that include the good farmers’ market that is held on Sundays, weekend artisan fair, the annual Maritime Day, and the annual Holiday Tree lightning ceremony.
Located near the Jack London Square is Yoshi’s, a Japanese restaurant and a world-class jazz venue. Jack London Square is the East Bay’s premier destination for restaurants that serve food from a diverse range of cuisines. Some of the popular venues for entertainment include the Oakland Metro Opera House, Jack London Cinema and Kimball’s carnival. One can have the experience of a cruise on the Oakland waterfront on the Alameda-Oakland Ferry that makes daily trips to San Francisco.
Billed as a “Floating White House”, the USS Potomac has been restored into a museum that houses artifacts of President Roosevelt. The Museum of Children’s Art (MOCHA), the Jack London Cabin, the Amtrak Station, the floating lighthouse and an American Navy ship that has been transformed into artists’ studio are some other important places worth seeing and visiting in Jack London Square.
Some of the popular shopping destinations at Jack London Square include the California Canoe & Kayak, Barnes & Noble, CaSaj Gallery, Samuels Gallery, Cost Plus World Market and the Tin Plate Junction. Tourists could even opt for a stay at the Square itself as there are multiple lodging options available.
