Ahwahnee Hotel

ahwahnee hotel in december

Being designated as one of the National historic landmarks, the Ahwahnee Hotel is one of most spectacular hotels in North America. Situated on the floor of Yosemite Valley inside the Yosemite National Park in California, the Ahwahnee Hotel is a massive structure built with stone, concrete, wood and glass. Widely acclaimed for its striking granite façade, beamed Cathedral ceilings, massive stone hearths, superiorly decorated interiors, plush rooms and richly colored Native American artwork, the Ahwahnee Hotel offers a perfect balance of history, hospitality and elegance.

The Ahwahnee Hotel was designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood. Opened in 1927, this luxurious hotel consists of 123 guest rooms and 4 parlor rooms. Out of these guest rooms, 99 are hotel rooms present in the main building while 24 are cottage rooms present on the grounds surrounding the main building. The hotel rooms are magnificently furnished and well-equipped with upholstered furniture, televisions, refrigerators, bathrobes, telephones and bath amenities. All the hotel rooms offer exquisite view of the Yosemite Valley’s spectacular beauty that includes the Yosemite Falls, Glacier Point and Half Dome.

Built with natural wood furnishings, the cottage rooms consist of king-size beds along with all other amenities available inside a hotel room. However, these rooms are not air-conditioned as the surrounding trees and ceiling fans keep the temperature comfortable inside the cottage. Every parlor room at Ahwahnee has its own unique design and style. However, parlor rooms are only available if booked along with an adjacent hotel room making it into a suite.

The Ahwahnee Hotel offers various services to the guests. Some of these include bell service, a full-time concierge service, twice a day maid service, room service, valet parking, turndown service and daily in-room ice service. Serving afternoon tea in the Great Lounge of the hotel is one of the remarkable experiences at Ahwahnee. The Ahwahnee Hotel comprises of facilities such as a unique gift shop, a sweet shop, a winter club room, a mural room, a solarium, swimming pool, tennis courts, giant stone fireplaces and private meeting rooms. The hotel also has an exquisite dining room that houses some of the most remarkable culinary events in the country.

For entertaining guests, the Ahwahnee Hotel holds certain evening activities and even operates a historic tour of public areas on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Rooms in this hotel need to be booked a year in advance. Room rates are between $400 and $500.
