Beverly Hills Civic Center

beverly hills civic center

The Beverly Hills Civic Center was built in 1990 and is a terrific spot for tourism and sightseeing as you make your way around Los Angeles. The buildings design matches the nearby City Hall with its Spanish architecture and located in the same plaza along with the library and police departments. The entire complex is connected with a series of circular courtyards that are as beautiful as they are functional.Palm trees, balconies, and glorious columns add to the overall Spanish ambience and create a complement to the city’s reputation as a haven for the rich and famous.

Tourists visiting the Civic Center should keep an eye out for works of art, which are placed sporadically throughout the complex. The architect was a man named Charles Moore, who won a vast contest to win the rights to design the Civic Center. Notable for his entry is Frank Gehry, architect and designer of some of the most unique and exciting buildings in the world. Moore was primarily concerned with downtown architecture which gave something useful and beautiful to the city. It was Moore’s goal to create a place that was unique in its construction and would be remembered for its art and architecture by all who happened to visit it. Moore was aware that many municipal buildings were bland and mundane, simply serving function with little regard for style. His original plan for the Center, which included a theater, a full art gallery, a cafeteria, and a series of waterfalls, was severely limited by budget restraints.
