Geffen Contemporary at MOCA

geffen contemporary at MOCA

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) has three locations in Los Angeles, one of them being the Geffen Contemporary. This building in Little Tokyo, formerly a police garage, was first used in 1983 and was then known as the Temporary Contemporary (TC), since it was meant as a temporary facility for contemporary art while the main branch on Grand Avenue was still under construction. However, the renovations proved so successful that this museum became a permanent branch of MOCA.

The Geffen Contemporary is the largest of the three branches of MOCA and is an ideal location for large works. It is mainly used for more recent works of art, mainly by lesser known artists. Exhibits are changed often.
