George C. Page Museum

Located next to the La Brea Tar Pits, the George C. Page Museum contains over a million fossils of over 200 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, plants, and insects, all found in the area. These species were trapped in the tar pits during the past 42,000 years, so their skeletons are well-preserved. Some of the highlights of the museum include the mammoth skeleton shown above and "La Brea Woman", the only only human skeleton found in the area.
During the summer, visitors have the opportunity to watch paleontologists at work from a viewing station. Their duties involve cleaning, identifying, and cataloging fossils.
The George C. Page Museum is part of the nearby Natural History Museum of Los Angeles.
