Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory is an awesome astronomical obervatory and science center located atop Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Its location offers spectacular views of the Los Angeles basin below. The observatory was built in the Art Deco style from 1933 to 1935. It is divided into three sections, the Hall of Science Museum, the Planetarium, and the telescopes.
The Hall of Science features a large Foucault pendulum, which tracks the Earth's rotation as it oscillates. Above the pendulum is a series of murals depicting various areas of science. The Planetarium features some spectacular shows. It was used in the 1955 James Dean film Rebel Without a Cause. The 12-inch (30 cm) Zeiss Telescope is the main telescope, which is open to the public on clear nights.
