Miracle Mile

miracle mile

The Miracle Mile is an 18-acre (7.2 ha) stretch of land along Wilshire Boulevard in Hollywood, purchased by developer AW Ross in 1920, who developed it into a bustling shopping district. Shortly thereafter, this strip was lined with numerous Art Deco shops with large parking lots. The Miracle Mile was one of the first LA streets built for cars, leading to its decentralization.

Today, few of the original Art Deco buildings remain, having been replaced with ethnic grocery stores. Among the few remaining are the May Company building (now LACMA West) and a smaller version of the razed Richfield Tower. Now the street has five museum, including LACMA, so it is also known as Museum Row.
