Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)

The Museum of Contemporary Art, better known as MOCA, has three locations in Los Angeles, but the main building is located downtown on Grand Avenue. This building is as impressive as its collection, consisting of an intricate array of pryraminds, cylinders, and cubes. It was designed in 1986 by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki.
A vast staircase past the sunken entrance leads to the museum's seven galleries, four of which are naturally lit by pyramid-shaped skylights. MOCA features works by several well-known modern artists, including Piet Mondrian, Jackson Polluck, Mark Rothko, and Robert Rauschenberg. Genres of modern art featured include Pop Art and Abstract Expressionism.
MOCA also has an impressive photography exhibit. MOCA also has an 11-acre (4.5-ha) outdoor plaza with an amazing fountain, which shoots off a wave consisting of 10,000 gallons (45,500 litres) of water every 20 minutes.
