Palisades Park

One of the most popular destinations in Santa Monica for those wishing to soak up the sun, enjoy a relaxing view of the magnificent Pacific Ocean, or just take a leisurely stroll along one of the country’s finest beachside areas, Palisades Park offers something for everyone. It runs along Ocean Avenue and sits atop the white sands of the natural coastline. The recent addition of a crushed asphalt running path has made it a preferred destination for joggers as well.
The Palisades itself is a 13-block long stretch of lush green grass and majestic palm trees overlooking the ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway. Every day, hundreds of tourists and locals flock to the Palisades to take in all this public park has to offer. Photographers both amateur and professional will find much to lens in the scenic area, and the beauty and beach atmosphere has made the park an oft-filmed location for Hollywood motion pictures.
Speaking of cameras, visitors with an eye for 20th century history will want to check out the Camera Obscura, located within the Palisades Park Senior Recreation center. Use of this strange and wonderful pinhole camera allows tourists to see their favorite sights from a unique perspective and is a favorite of those with an interest in photography.
For California tourists wishing to know more about the area and get some ideas of places to visit and things to do, there is the Santa Monica Visitor Information Kiosk, which is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and offers maps and local information.
