Universal Studios Hollywood

A trip to the Los Angeles area would not be complete without a visit to Universal Studios Hollywood. Here, visitors get a chance to take a first-hand look at Universal City, home to over 500 sets used in movies and TV shows. A tram takes visitors through these sets as well as several special effects props. In addition, Universal Studios has recently been converted into a theme park, with several exciting rides and attraction pertaining to blockbuster motion pictures. Among these are Jurassic Park, WaterWorld, The Mummy Returns - Chamber of Doom, Shrek 4-D and Terminator 2:3D. Today, Universal Studios Hollywood is one of three Universal Studios Theme Parks worldwide.
History
- In 1915, Carl Laemmle bought a chicken ranch at moved his movie studio here. He charged guests 25 cents to watch films being made.
- In 1927, with the advent of talking pictures (talkies), the movie sets needed quiet so the visits stopped.
- In 1964, Universal Studios Hollywood was launched with its tram ride through the movie sets.
- In 1990, Universal Orlando Resort in Florida was opened.
- In 2001, Universal Studios Japan was opened in Osaka.
