Walk of Fame

The Walk of Fame is a world-famous strip of sidewalk on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. It is marked by over 2,000 star symbols with names of various celebrities honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The first star was awarded to Joanne Woodward in 1960. In the center of each star, below each name is an icon indicating for which entertainment category (film, radio, TV, music, or theater) the celebrity received his or her award. Four stars have been stolen, but they have all been replaced.
Trivia
- Thus far, Gene Autry is the only celebrity to have received stars for each of the five entertainment categories.
- The Walk of Fame has four identical moon symbols at each of its four corners, honoring the three Apollo 11 astronauts who performed the first moon landing in 1969.
- The Walk of Fame is 3 1/2 miles (6 km) long if followed from star to star.
- Several fictional characters, including Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Godzilla, and Kermit the Frog, have stars.
- In 2005, companies became elligible for stars. Disneyland became the first, in honor of its 50th anniversary.
