Jake Jackson Museum

Located in Weaverville, California, the Jake Jackson Museum houses some unique collections of antiques that speak volumes about the culture, society and people of Trinity County. This museum is managed by Trinity County Historical society for research and learning.
The Jake Jackson Museum and the History Center was established in the memory of Ray Jackson. The museum was initially located in the basement of a courthouse. It was later shifted to the existing campus in 1968. One of the first collections in the museum was the antique firearms assortment left over by Ray from his brother Jake, while Ray was serving in World War I.
The museum is divided into several theme-based components, including a history center, galleries, barn, mining artifacts, ditch tenders, cabin, and stamp mill.
The History Center contains an exhaustive collection of documents, maps, photographs and books. Some of these include the early county maps, maps of individual communities, early mining location maps, the US Forest Service maps, the US Geological Survey maps, numerous photographs displaying the life of early settlers in the county, and official Trinity County records between 1850 and 1950.
Numerous exhibits depicting the history of Trinity County have been put on display inside the museum. These include Native American implements and baskets, old bottles, articles used by early settlers, ancient clothing and jewelry items, fossil specimens, firearms, and articles used by a Chinese community who used to dwell in this region. Apart from these, there are several other valuable treasures located in the museum.
Housed in the Barn are some early farm equipment, buggies, wagons, one-cylinder gas engines, a Chinese adobe-building wall and an old Linotype used for printing during early days. The museum also has a large collection of mining artifacts which include gold ore processing stamp mills, jaw type rock crushers, steam boilers and Pelton wheels. The processes of gold recovery, ore transportation and a typical hydraulic mining operation have been aptly demonstrated in the museum.
Also included in the museum is a duplication of a functional old-time blacksmith shop and a tin shop. The museum also has a gift shop.
