Asian Art Museum

The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco has one of the most impressive collections of Asian art in the world. Its collection was formely housed at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, but it was moved in 2003 to the former city library opposite the Civic Center. The museum contains over 15,000 works of art and artifacts from all over Asia and from as far back as 4000 BC. Over 2500 artworks are on permanent display. The museum contains major gallers devoted to India, China, Persia, Southeast Asia, Korea and Japan. There are also performance venues and a hands-on discovery center as well as a cafe overlooking the Civic Center and the Fulton Street mall.
