California Palace of the Legion of Honor

The California Palace of the Legion of Honor, or more simply known as the Legion of Honor, is a superb art museum in San Francisco. The museum was built by Alma de Bretteville Spreckels in the 1920s and designed by the architect George Applegarth. The Legion of Honor features European art from the past eight centuries, including over 70 scuptures by Rodin. Other artists featured include Monet, Renoir, Degas, Rubens, Rembrandt, El Greco, Cezanne, Braque and Picasso. The museum's masterpieces include the following:
- The Thinker by Auguste Rodin
- Waterlilies by Claude Monet
- Old Woman by Georges de la Tour
- Virgin and Child by Dieric Bouts
- The Tribute Money by Peter Paul Rubens
- The Impresario by Egdar Degas
The Legion of Honor also features an impressive symphonic organ built by Speckels in 1924. Organ recitals are performed every Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 5 PM.
