The Cannery

Built in 1909, The Cannery in Fisherman's Wharf in downtown San Francisco was once the largest peach cannery in the world. During the 1960s it was converted into a shopping center, with restaurants and various shops. Another feature in The Cannery is the Treasure Island Museum, with various memorabilia from the 1939 World's Fair, which celebrated the unity of Pacific cultures. Among the museum's displays are the China Clippers (Pan American seaplanes used during World War II) and a large Fresnel lens which was once used in the Farallon Island lighthouse.
