Coit Tower

Coit Tower is a remarkable structure built atop Telegraph Hill in San Francisco in 1933 with funds from Little Hitchcock Coit. The art-deco tower stands 210 feet (64 m) tall and is made of reinforced concrete. When lit up at night, it can be seen from most of the eastern part of the city. A spectacular view of the north bay can be seen from the top of the tower, which can be reached by elevator.
Encircling the main floor are an impressive set of murals by 26 artists. These murals depict a particularly leftist viewpoint, which was predominant during the Depression. There is no charge for viewing the murals during the hours in which the tower is open. More murals, which run along the spiral stairway, are accessable on Saturdays at 11 AM, along with a free tour.
