Fisherman's Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf is one of the most popular tourist spots in San Francisco. The area spans six blocks and seven piers along the northeastern coast of the city, from Ghirardelli Square to the northern end of Grant Avenue. Fisherman's Wharf boasts Pier 39, the USS Pampanito, the Wax Museum, Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum, The Cannery, the Hyde Street Pier, and the San Francisco National Maritime Museum. There also plenty of seafood restaurants and fish markets as well as fishing boats which leave from the piers early each morning.
Fisherman's Wharf got its start in the late 19th century when fisherman from Genoa and Sicily first arrived in the area. Although the area has since given rise mainly to tourism, the fishing industry is still going strong here.
