Jackson Square Historical District

The Jackson Square Historical District is a small neighborhood in the Financial District in downtown San Francisco consisting of some beautiful restored buidings dating from the Gold Rush era (1850-1910). It was formerly known as the Barbary Coast. The buildings are made of brick and have cast-iron and granite facades. 555 Pacific Street was the old Hippodrome Theater, which used to feature risque shows. Today the buildings are used as showrooms, antique shops, and law offices. The best ones to visit are on Jackson Street, Montgomery Street, Gold Street, and Hotaling Place.
