Japan Center

Japan Center is a large modern Japanese shopping area located in Japantown, is a Japanese district of six square blocks in the middle of Pacific Heights in San Francisco. The center was built in 1968 in order to revitalize the Fillmore District. Many old Victorian houses were demolished and replaced with the Geary Expressway as well as this large modern shopping complex. Japan Center consists of three shopping centers as well as the 75-foot (22 m) tall Peace Pogoda, shown above.
Japan Center includes numerous Asian restaurants (Chinese and Korean as well as Japanese) as well as supermarkets, hotels, banks, and other shops. The eight-scree AMC Kubuki movie theater complex is nearby.
Japan Center hosts two street fairs each year, the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival, held for two weekends each April, and the Nihonmachi Street Fair, held one weekend each August.
