Japanese Tea Garden

The Japanese Tea Garden is a charming garden in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It was built as part of the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894. Since then, it has remained one of the most popular features in the park. The garden features a tall pagoda, an arch-shaped foot bridge, a step-stone bridge and several hidden sculptures. The garden spans an area of roughly five acres (two hectares). Makato Hakiwara, inventor of the fortune cookie, was the original caretaker of the garden. The best time to visit is in April, when the cherry trees are in bloom.
