San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park

As can be seen above, the San Francisco National Maritime Museum resembles a beached ocean liner. It was built in 1939 and originally served as a public bathhouse. In 1951 it was converted into a seafaring museum. The museum contains an impressive display of ship models and nautical instruments as well as paintings and photos of local nautical history.
Just two blocks east of the museum along the beach is the Hyde Street Pier, which features one of the world's largest collection of old ships, including the following large vessels:
- Balclutha: an 18th century square rigged sailing ship
- C.A. Thayer : a schooner built in 1895
- Eureka: a steam ferryboat built in 1890
- Alma: a schooner built in 1895
- Hercules: a steam tugboat built in 1907
- Eppleton Hall: a paddlewheel tugboat built in 1914
The Hyde Street Pier also features over 100 small vessels.
