Balboa Park

Balboa Park is the country’s largest urban cultural park and it is located just minutes from downtown San Diego. The park is home to 15 museums, it has famous performing arts venues, beautiful gardens and of course the famous San Diego Zoo. Balboa Park is hosts museums exhibits, plays, musicals, concerts, summer camps for kids and classes right round the year amidst its beautiful setting.
Balboa Park is spread across more than 1,000 acres (400 ha) and is ideal for family vacations and trips where you can experience San Diego’s natural beauty, art and culture and awe-inspiring Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. There are many things to do and see in Balboa Park.
The museums housed in Balboa Park range from art to science to air and space to natural history. Many of the museums, which are located along Balboa Park's Prado, are housed in glorious Spanish Colonial Revival buildings which were originally constructed for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915-1916.
Balboa Park also houses San Diego’s largest arts organization, the Old Globe Theater. The theater has three stages and annually Old Globe presents at least 14 productions and 550 performances which are worth seeing.
With its lush landscaping and beautiful gardens, Balboa Park is famous across the nation for its brilliant displays of seasonal flowers, shady groves of trees, and meandering paths through rolling green lawns.
There are many family play and picnic areas, three leash-free dog parks, lawn bowling, shopping, restaurants, canyon trails for hiking and a golf course within Balboa Park.
Approximately 14 million visitors come to Balboa Park each year to see and enjoy exhibitions of art, exotic animals, model railroads, world folk art, sports memorabilia and rare aircrafts.
You can get discounted admissions to Balboa Park’s major museums through the Passport to Balboa Park. The $30 Passport is valid for one week and it allows you entrance to 13 museums. Balboa Park museums also offer free admission one Tuesday per month and this is on rotating basis.
