The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is an art museum that concentrates on collection, preservation, exhibition and interpretation of works of art from 1950 to the present. There are many contemporary paintings, sculptures and objets d’ art in the museum.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is a new venue in downtown San Diego and it can host more visitors for the art exhibitions. It also has many public programs for adults as well as children. It is combined with the existing Museum of Contemporary Art’s downtown facility and has more than 16,000 square feet of exhibition space.

The museum has bright art galleries with larges spaces for site-specific work. It also features a lecture hall and education room for interactive art activities. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego has works of art from many American and international artists like Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Roman de Salvo, Jenny Holzer, Ernesto Neto, Richard Serra and Richard Wright.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego opened in January 21, 2007 and is designed by Richard Gluckman. The building is a renovation of the historic 1915 Santa De Depot baggage building, the Jacobs Building, and a new three story building, the Copley Building.

The Jacobs Building has four open gallery spaces for large sculptures, site-specific works and installation art. While the Copley Building of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego has a 120-seat auditorium, an education room, a terrace with a breathtaking view of the San Diego Harbor. The curatorial and administrative offices of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego are housed in the Copley Building.

The Foster Gallery in the Jacobs Building is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. It is an Internet ready gallery with multiple channel video capabilities. Here the artists can push the boundaries of art and technology to the maximum while you can experience the unique progressive and avant-garde artistic work.

General admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego cost $10; military and seniors pay $5; and 25 and under are admitted free. One the third Tuesday of every month, admission into the Museum is free.
