Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve is just two miles north of Guerneville on the Armstrong Woods Road in the famous Wine Country of California.

The beauty and magnificence of Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve is unparallel and is the only reminder left of the Redwood forest that used to cover much of this area before logging operations began in the 19th century. Today, Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve is the home to last of these primeval coast redwoods.

Some of the Coast Redwoods in Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve have survived for over 2,000 years and tower over 300 feet. These tall giants are often shrouded in fog on account of the 55 inches of rainfall that falls in an average in this area.

Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve has a visitor center, picnic facilities, and an outdoor amphitheater. You can opt for a self-guided nature trail and admire the beauty and experience the dramatic effects of the Redwoods.

There is no camping facility at the reserve. However, one is available at Austin Creek State Recreation Area which is adjoining the Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve, and is accessible through the same entrance as the reserve.

The tallest tree in the Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve is the Parson Jones Tree at 310 feet. This tree is just a mile’s walk from the main entrance of the reserve. The oldest tree is the Colonel Armstrong Tree. This tree is estimated to be over 1,400 years old and is named after the person who took the initiative to preserve this part of the reserve way back in the 1870s.

The picnic area in Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve is 3/4 of a mile from the park entrance and is equipped with restrooms, tables and grills. All these are situated under trees and in winter you will even find the seasonal creeks flowing in this area.

There are many trails in Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve and you have the option on walking and discovering the reserve, riding a bicycle on the service area or opting for horseback riding.
