City Park, a neighborhood and park in east-central Denver, Colorado, is the largest and most frequented area in the city. This magnificent Park is bordered by 4 main streets: West-York Street, East-Colorado Boulevard, South-17th Avenue, and North-23rd Avenue. It encompasses an area of over 330 acres (1.33 sq. km.) and comprises of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, a boathouse, Denver Zoo, and Ferril and Duck Lakes.
The initial layout and the casual design of the Park were designed in 1882 by Henry Meryweather. Formal gardens, elegant carriage ways, and the East High School Esplanade were introduced onto the Park by Reinhardt Schuetze. Besides, there are a number of historical buildings in and around the Park. These include several Denver square style homes and a number of historic brick commercial structures.
The City Park attracts thousands of visitors every year. It hosts a free summer concert series and offer boathouses on rent. It also features an interactive fountain, standard paddle boats, and boats shaped like pelicans and ducks. At present, Colfax, situated in the City Park neighborhood, is a popular area filled with stores, hip restaurants, and residential and commercial developments. The major landmarks in this area include the Mercy Hospital, the Twist & Shout record store, and the Tattered Cover Bookstore. City Park is a premier park in Denver and is the best place to relax on a holiday.
