Civic Center, a neighborhood and park in Denver, Colorado, is considered to be the civic heart of downtown Denver. The most popular feature of the Civic Center neighborhood is the ‘Golden Triangle’. The spacious plaza is well known for a number of institutions of government, arts, and culture as well as several festivals, parades, and protests held here throughout the year. The Civic Center Park, known for its unique neoclassical design, features numerous statues, fountains, and formal gardens. It also includes a war memorial, the Voorhees Memorial Seal Pond, and a Greek amphitheater. The Civic Center Park was established in 1919 by Denver Mayor, Robert Speer. It was designed by the famous architect Edward H. Bennett.
The main buildings situated around the Park include the Denver Art Museum, Colorado State History Museum, Denver Public Library, Colorado State Judicial Building, Colorado State Capitol, and the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building. Besides, the Park is also bordered by some of the most important streets in the city; Lincoln Street on the east, 14th Avenue on the south, Bannock Street on the west, and Colfax Avenue on the north. Another point of interest in the Park is the Civic 10-stair, which is very popular among the skateboarders of Denver.
The Park also hosts a number of public events and celebrations that represent the cultural heritage and diversity of Denver and Colorado. The major events that are traditionally held every year in the Park include Cinco de Mayo, Theater in the Park, Peoples Fair, Taste of Colorado, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All these events are open to the public and are free for all.
