The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is situated in City Park, just 2 miles (3 km) east of downtown Denver, Colorado. It is the main natural history museum in Denver and emphasizes primarily on education and research of the Denver Metro Area. The Museum sits at a slightly higher elevation than the rest of the Park, owing to which the western side of the Museum offers breathtaking views of the Denver skyline and the panoramic mountains behind them.
The Museum also houses numerous diorama halls, a Phillips IMAX Theatre, and the Gates Planetarium. The famous Gates Planetarium was established in the year 1968. The Phillips IMAX Theater, formerly the Phillips Auditorium, was inaugurated in 1983. This Theater has world’s biggest theater screen in the world and is well equipped with surplus seating and surround sound.
Some of the major permanent exhibitions at the Museum include Discovery Zone, Birds of the Americas, Prehistoric Journey, Explore Colorado, Insects & Butterflies, Edge of the Wild, and North American Indian Cultures. Other exhibits focus on interesting facts about the space, gems and minerals, bears, sea mammals, Australia, Northern American wildlife, South America, and Botswana, Africa. The recent most guest exhibition at the Museum is ‘Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition’. Other planned exhibitions include the Human Journey Hall, the Earth Science Hall, and the Health Science Hall. The ‘Denver Museum of Nature and Science’ is a great learning experience and is certainly worth a visit.
