The ‘Museo de las Américas’, situated in the Santa Fe Art District in Denver, Colorado, is a non-profit museum established in 1991. Its main aim is to preserve, present, and promote the culture and art of the Latino people. In fact, it is the only museum in the Rocky Mountain Region, which emphasizes solely on the achievements of the Latinos, from ancient times to the present. The main purpose of the impressive exhibitions, collections, educational activities, bilingual programs, and special events at the Museo is to educate the public about the diversity of Latino Americano culture and art. These exhibits also help to promote understanding between different cultures, build pride in Latino Heritage, and encourage appreciation for the rich cultural diversity of the Americas.
The Museum houses a permanent collection as well as several rotating exhibits, which cover everything from Latin American women artists in the 20th century to Hispanics in the state legislature. The permanent exhibits include a number of contemporary works, a Mayan polychrome jar, and the oil painting Virgin of Solitude. The ‘Muniz Remastered’ exhibition, organized by Devon Dikeou, comprises of rare photographs from the West Collection. It features a unique selection of reinterpretations by Muniz of masters such as Rembrandt, Aaron Siskind, Corot, Durer, etc.
The Museo also offers a number of educational programs and internships for students, high school graduates, and community volunteers. Besides, it also organizes several customized museum tours and a variety of hands-on art workshops. These workshops are specially designed to address the Colorado State standards and enhance the classroom curriculum. Different workshops are professionally designed for different age groups.
