The ‘Argo Gold Mine, Mill, and Museum’ is situated off I-70 in Idaho Springs, Colorado. The exhibits at the Museum include ore and mineral samples, early photographs, tools, relics, and equipments of the late 19th century Gold Mine and Mill. These tools and equipments were used in the Mill to extract gold. Besides, demonstrations of milling, crushing, and rock drilling are also featured in the Museum.
Visitors are also given an opportunity to pan for gemstones and gold. 45-minutes guided tours help the visitors to explore and understand the silver- and gold- processing levels of the historic Argo Tunnel, Mine and Mill. These tours begin at the Double Eagle Mine, a hand-dug gold mine and they conclude at the Clear Creek Mining Museum in Idaho springs. The history of the Tunnel and the Mill is explained by an experienced guide during the tours.
These tours of the mill, the Double eagle Gold mine, and the mining museum are offered daily. The historic Mill processed nearly one hundred million dollars worth of gold ore every day. This mill was only one-of-its-kind and the largest in the world. At present, the Mill stands as a memorial to the rock miners. The local attractions on this historic site include world’s finest hot mineral springs, white water rafting, horse back riding, and great trout fishing.
