The Astor House Museum, situated in the historic Downtown Golden, Colorado, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Astor House was established by Seth Lake in the year 1867. It was originally a hotel that served patrons from terrestrial legislatures to miners. This hotel was famous as it was the only one that did not serve alcohol.
The Astor House was carved out of sandstone and was an upgrade from Lake’s original Lake House Hotel. However, the hotel was later purchased by Ida Goetz. After several years, the hotel was converted to a boarding house and finally, it was completely renovated to its present appearance. The At present, the Museum is managed and monitored by the Friends of the Astor House Museum & Clear Creek History Park, a non-profit organization. Museum is funded by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, Jefferson County Open Space, the Golden Civic Foundation, and other private contributions.
The Astor House Museum helps the visitors to travel back in time, relive the Colorado life in the late 1800s, and experience the Victorian material culture. The exhibits at the Museum depict the lifestyle of Ida Goetz, Golden founders and pioneers, boarding house residents. The revolving exhibits focus on many other subjects that deal with the time period from 1867 to 1908. “Tea Time at the Astor House” is an educational program organized by the Museum. The Museum mainly aims at encouraging people to explore and understand how the people of golden, Colorado established a dynamic town that served as a government center and a mining supply town for several years.
