The City of Boulder, the most populous city in the Boulder County, Colorado, is located nearly 30 miles (50 km) from Denver and just a few miles east of the continental divide. It is nestled in the spectacular Boulder Valley, just beneath the panoramic Flagstaff Mountain. The City is recognized by several imposing slabs of sedimentary stone called the ‘Flatirons’. The famous Boulder Creek flows through the center of the city and is fed by the huge Arapahoe Glacier. The climate in the City of Boulder is very pleasant with moderate summers and mild winters.
Boulder is well known for its recreational activities. It is bordered by over 31,000 acres (126 sq-km) of natural preserves and recreational open space. Besides, there are a number of scenic trails that offer great opportunities for hiking and biking. Another favorite tourist activity in the city is rock climbing. World-class facilities for rock climbing are provided in the Eldorado Canyon, situated 6 miles (10 km) from Boulder. This world-famous Canyon has a number of challenging, high quality rock climbing routes. There are several exciting routes in the Boulder Canyon as well.
Boulder is also home to the internationally acclaimed universities like the University of Colorado and the Naropa University. The University of Colorado organizes several annual events such as the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Conference on World Affairs, and the Colorado Mahler Fest. Another popular event held annually in Boulder is the Colorado Music Festival. This 6-week classical music fest is organized at the historic Chautauqua Auditorium and it attracts thousands of tourists and musicians from all over the world. A number of international musicians also play in the famous Boulder Theater. University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and the Hiking Club are the two main attractions on the University Campus. ‘Boulder Boulder’ and the Boulder Creek festival are two events organized in the City on the Memorial Day. The former is a 10 km (6.2 mi) road run and one of the largest road races in the world. It involves over 50,000 joggers, walkers, and wheelchair racers every year.
Boulder is also considered to be a shopper’s paradise. The most favorite social hotspot in the City is the Pearl Street Mall, situated in the Downtown area. This four-block pedestrian mall houses several shops, specialty stores, and elegant restaurants. The Downtown area also has a number of boutique stores, restaurants, and bars. Other places for shopping include the Farmers’ Market and the Twenty Ninth Street retail district. Thus, Boulder is rich in culture, history, natural beauty, recreation, and music. It has a lot to offer to people of all ages and is, no doubt, a perfect holiday destination.
