downtown golden

The City of Golden is a magnificent, historic city located in the Jefferson County, Colorado. It is nestled along the famous Clear Creek, at the eastern edge of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. It was named after Thomas L. Golden and was established during the Pikes Gold Rush. The City is connected by U.S. Route 6 and the Colorado State Highway 470. At present, Golden is considered to be the western suburb of Denver.  It is mainly laid out upon a historic street grid system. Washington Avenue, the main thoroughfare in the city, is an 80-ft (24.4 m) right of way with a downtown care streetscape featuring planters, trees, flagstone, bricks, and ornamental street lights.

The major landmarks in the City include the Coors Brewing Company, the Colorado Railroad Museum, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the Colorado School of Mines.  A self-guided walking tour through certain unique, preserved fossils is open to the public at the Fossil Trace Golf Course. Golden is also well known for its recreational activities. The most favorite tourist activity in the City is mountain biking. World-class facilities and challenging routes are made offered to those interested in this sport. The most common bike route stretches from Chimney Gulch/Windy Saddle to Apex Park. This exciting route has a number of hairpin turns up the side of Lookout Mountain and Mount Zion. Another favorite pastime is natural outdoor rock climbing. A number of bolted and Trad routes are offered at the North Table Mountain.

The City is also rich in culture and sports. The popular Jefferson Symphony Orchestra performs seasonally in the Green Center at the Colorado School of Mines. The Historic Church in the City houses the Foothills Art Center, an art exhibition that attracts thousands of visitors every year. Besides, there are also two live theater groups in the City- the Heritage Square Music Hall and the Miners Alley Playhouse. The major museums in Golden are the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum, the Astor House Hotel Museum, the Golden Pioneer Museum, and the Clear Creek History Park. A number of annual cultural events are also held in city. These include Heart and Soul Month, Independence Day fireworks shows, Buffalo Bill Days, the Golden Fine Arts Festival, the Golden fest, and the Olde Golden Christmas. Golden is rich in history, culture, and sports, and is, no doubt, a perfect holiday destination for people of all ages.
