Idaho Springs & Georgetown

Idaho Springs, situated in the Clear Creek Canyon, is the most populous city of the Clear Creek County, Colorado.  It was established in the year 1859 and was the regional mining district in the days of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. The city of Idaho Springs is nestled along the north side of Interstate 70. It is bordered by the historic downtown on its west and by several tourist-related businesses on its east.

Besides, the City of Idaho Springs is also the bedroom community of those who work at the Loveland Ski Area. A major tourist attraction in the City is Beau Jo’s, a popular pizza restaurant founded in 1973. The other major tourist attractions in the city include the Argo Tunnel, Gold Mill, and Museum; the Phoenix Gold Mine; the Indian Hot Springs; the Edgar Experimental Mine; and the life-size statue of the cartoon character, Steve Canyon.

The historic town of Georgetown, on the other hand, is the county seat of the Clear Creek County, Colorado. This town is nestled along I-70, in the Clear Creek Valley at an elevation of 8530 ft (2545 m). It was established by George and David Griffith in the year 1859. During the late 19th century, this small historic town was the main center for silver mining. It was popularly known as the “Silver Queen of Colorado”.

At present, Georgetown is a very famous summer tourist center. It is well known for its recreational activities. Mountain biking, skiing, fishing, rafting, hiking, and rock climbing are some of the major tourist activities in the town. The town is home to a number of world-class trails, bike routes, and ski resorts. The Argentine Central Railroad Bed offers great opportunities for hiking, skiing, and jeeping.

Besides, there are a number of shops, restaurants, boutiques, hotels, and historic buildings in the City. These historic buildings have the magnificent Victorian architecture. Another tourist attraction in the nearby Canon City is the Historic Royal George Route Railroad. The cities of Georgetown and Idaho Springs have a lot to offer to its visitors and are certainly worth a visit at least once.
