Manitou Springs
Manitou springs is well known for its artisans and galleries; a number of internationally acclaimed, world-class historic restaurants; neighborhood eateries; secluded wooded campgrounds; unique Victorian bed & breakfasts; cozy unique motels; quality motor inns; and several cabins by Fountain Creek. Major tourist attractions in the city include the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the Cave of the Winds, the Miramont Castle, and the Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings Museum. The Pikes Peak Cog railway is the highest railway in North America and is meant solely for tourism trade. It takes the passengers to the summit of Pikes Peak, at an elevation of 14,110 ft (4.3 km).The Cave of Winds, on the other hand, is a unique GeoVenture and one of the most fascinating show caves in America. The magnificent wonders of the underground world have been attracting visitors to this Cave for over a century. The magnificent 46-room Miramont Castle was built in 1895 by Jean Baptist Francolon. The Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings are captivating architectural remnants of an American Indian Culture. This unique historical treasure encourages the visitors to relive the past of the Anasazi people. Other attractions a short drive away from the town include the Cliff House, a small luxury hotel; the Garden of the Gods, an elegant public park known for its sandstone formations; the spectacular Helen Hunt Falls; the North Pole & Santa’s Workshop; Seven Falls; Cheyenne Mountain Zoo; Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center; the Air Force Academy; and the Colorado Wolf & Wildlife Center. The Ghost Town Museum, the Flying “W” Ranch Chuck Wagon Cowboy Show, and the Iron Springs Chateau Melodrama are also a “must see” in the town.
