The Ouray Hot Springs Pool is situated at the north end of the historic City of Ouray, on U.S. Highway 505. It was built by the Ouray Recreation Center in 1927. However, at present, the pool is owned and managed by the City as a public facility. This ellipse shaped pool measures 125 ft x 150 ft (38 m x 45.7 m), and is a major tourist attraction in the city. Thousands of residents and visitors come here every year to relax in the soothing hot mineral water of this natural swimming pool.
The Ouray Hot Springs Pool offers three different temperatures of water, a diving board, a slide, and a lap pool. Noodles, towels, toys, and suits are made available on rent. A world-class Fitness Center, situated on the second level of the Ouray Natural Hot Springs Pool Bathhouse, is also open to the public. In order to qualify to swim in the deep water, children are required to first swim a lap in the pool forward and then backstroke a lap.
This Hot Springs Pool is just like a warm tub heated by the earth. Here, natural hot springs provide rest and relaxation for the weary tourists. While relaxing in the pool, the visitors can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Canyon and the surrounding peaks. A number of animals, especially the mule deer, can be seen grazing near poolside.
