Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame

bronco statue, pro rodeo hall of fame

The Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, run by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's board, is situated in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization that solely serves the educational purpose. It aims at preserving the Rodeo artifacts and maintaining the interest of people in sports. In fact, this Museum is the only one in the entire world that is dedicated exclusively to the sport of Rodeo and to its star, the Rodeo Cowboy. The Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame was established on August 9, 1979. At present, it attracts nearly 40,000-50,000 visitors annually. Here, visitors are encouraged to trace the Rodeo history and to experience again the glory of the great champions of Rodeo.

The major attraction in the museum is the giant statue of Casey Tibbs riding his famous bronc Necktie. This legendary bronc rider was a nine-time world champion from 1949 to 1959. This large-than-life bronze statue of Tibbs was made in the year 1989 to honor him. The Hall of Fame has two theaters, each of which describes in detail not only the history of rodeo but also the lifestyle of the modern rodeo cowboy. The exhibits displayed in the Museum gives a picture of the development of Rodeo equipment. In addition, the Champions Hall in the Museum honors the most accomplished champions of Rodeo.

Every year, a few individuals are selected for induction by the Hall of Fame selection committee. These selected individuals, commonly known as inductees, are those who have made some significant contribution to the sport. The outdoor and garden exhibits area includes a real rodeo arena, bronzes, and a cage with the ‘High Chaparral’, a champion bucking horse. Besides, great facilities are made available for special events from concerts to receptions. A large catering kitchen and outdoor barbeque grills are also available for such events. The operations of the Hall of Fame are funded by membership dues, admission revenues, special event revenues, corporate and individual contributions, and sales from the Museum Store. The Store sells a large variety of rodeo merchandise as well as Hall of Fame memorabilia. Serious Rodeo fans can avail memberships through the PRCA Associate Membership program.
