The famous Rim Rock Drive is a major tourist attraction in the Colorado National Monument, situated near the city of Grand Junction, Colorado. It is a 23-mile (37-km) scenic drive that continues along the rim of a vibrant vista of bottomless, sheer-sided canyons, and lofty rock towers. A number of impressive wayside exhibits at pullouts along the drive offer useful information about the history of the park. One should allow at least 45 minutes of driving time, plus additional time for photography, walking, and stopping at pullouts.
The most favorite and challenging pastime in the Monument is bicycling the Rim Rock Drive. This drive not only entertains the most casual of recreational cyclists but also offers great challenges to the world’s strongest riders. The overall climb for a complete trip around the Grand Loop, which includes the Rim Rock Drive, is nearly 2300 ft (700 m) and takes nearly 3 hours to complete. However, off-road mountain biking is not allowed on the drive. Rim Rock Drive offers breathtaking views of the surrounding picturesque landscape.
