royal gorge route railroad

The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is perhaps the best way to experience the magnificent Royal Gorge and all the scenic wonders that it offers. It is considered to be the most exciting and spectacular scenic railroad in the world. It provides breathtaking views of the Royal Gorge in Colorado.  The tracks of this historic railroad were laid nearly 120 years ago. The track follows the most stunning section of Denver & Rio Grande Railroad through the Gorge. The passenger service attracts visitors from all over the world and provides 12 miles (19 km) of memorable journey, coupled with world-class service.

The train features climate controlled coaches, open-air observation cars, and first-class cars. The passengers can choose from Coach seating or First-Class, along with the popular Gourmet Lunch, Four Course Dinner, Murder Mystery, and Winemaker’s Dinner Trains. Besides, the Royal Gorge Route is also known to have the largest collection of comfortable, glass topped domes. Visitors are also given an opportunity to experience the beauty of Royal Gorge in the 1950’s vintage Vista Dome Cars. The unforgettable rail journey through the 100o ft (304.8 m) deep Royal Gorge lasts for nearly 2 hrs, and covers a distance of 24 miles (38.6 km). Passengers can also spot a variety of wildlife on the way. The most commonly spotted animals include mule deers, ducklings, bald eagles, Blue Heron, and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.

The train operates throughout the year. It departs from the Santa Fe Depot. The major attraction here is the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, well-known for its award-winning, world-class Colorado wines. The Dinosaur Depot on the other end offers an enthralling Jurassic-like adventure.  The historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad has been serving people since 1879. It combines excitement, history, world-class service, delicious food, and entertainment. It is usually the first stop of all those who come to visit Colorado.
