Steamboat Springs is the most populous city and the county seat of the Routt County in Colorado. This town, popularly known as “Ski Town USA”, is an internationally acclaimed winter resort destination. It is highlighted by the popular Steamboat Ski Resort and the much smaller Howelsen Ski Area. The town of Steamboat Springs is also considered to be the largest, most authentic, most western, and the friendliest of all the Colorado ski towns. It offers a number of terrain parks, night tubing, half-pipe, and kids’ programs. The major attraction in the town is the Hot Springs Pool in downtown Steamboat.

The Steamboat Resort, in northwestern Colorado, is situated on Mount Werner in the Park Range, just east of the city. This Resort comprises of 5 interconnected mountains. Excellent fun routes through trees are offered by the Sunshine and the Storm Peaks. Six such peaks of groomed cruisers, steeps, bumps, open meadows, tree skiing, and plenty of champagne powder snow attract thousands of visitors to this Resort every year. The Resort usually has 330 inches (838 cm) of snow cover and 2939 acres (11.9 sq. km.) of terrain, out of which 14% is for beginners, and 44% is classified as advanced. It offers a maximum vertical drop of 3668 ft (1118 m).

It also offers a number of outdoor opportunities other than skiing and snowboarding. At present, the Ski Resort is managed by the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation in Steamboat Springs. It has 165 named trails and the Mavericks Super pipe, one of the best pipes in North America. The Resort also has 23 lifts that include one 8-passenger Gondola, one High-speed 6-passenger Christie Peak Express, five high-speed quad chairs, Elk head, 6 triple chairs, 3 double chairs, and 6 surface lifts.
The City of Steamboat Springs is also home to the Howelsen Ski Area. It is situated in the upper valley of the spectacular Yampa River, just west of the Continental Divide at the Rabbit Ears Pass. The close proximity of the Howelson Hill Resort to the nearby mountain town makes it a perfect wintertime destination. It is solely used for Olympic snow sports and other Winter Sports. It features one chair lift, one Poma Lift, a rope tow, a bobsled track, and a series of ski jumps. This Resort is the oldest operating ski area in Colorado.
