The town of Winter Park, situated in the Grand County, Colorado, is known for the world-famous Winter Park Ski Resort. This Resort is operated by Intrawest and owned by the City of Denver. It is an alpine ski resort located in the Rocky Mountains, just off U. S. Highway 40. It was established in 1940 and today, it is internationally acclaimed for the world’s oldest and largest disabled skiing program, the National Sports Center for the Disabled. The major attraction at the Resort is the Ski Train that carries the passengers from Denver to the resort’s base area through the Moffatt Tunnel.

The Winter Park Resort comprises of 3 main interconnected mountain peaks: Vasquez Ridge, Mary Jane, and Winter Park. The Mary Jane Peak is well known for its tree skiing, moguls, difficult terrain, and hidden huts. It also encompasses the famous tree-line terrain of Parsenn Bowl. Vasquez Ridge, on the other hand, offers intermediate terrains. The main features of the Winter Park Resort include the West Portal base lodge, new condominiums, a parking structure, a Village pond, and “The Cabriolet”, a new open-air gondola. A maximum vertical drop of 3060 ft (932.6 m) is offered in this area.

This Resort is also known to have the steadiest snow in Colorado, averaging nearly 370 inches (939.8 cm) every year. It encompasses an area of over 2,886 acres (11.7 sq-km), and features 25 lifts, 8 high speed quads, terrain parks, steeps, bumps, and long, groomed slopes suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers. Winter Park Resort is the longest regularly operated ski resort in Colorado and is served by the Denver International Airport. The Berthoud Resort, a favorite among locals, is the sister resort of the Winter Park Resort. It is known for hard-core skiing and snow boarding.
