Museum of ArtThe Museum of Art, situated in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was established in 1958. The magnificent building that houses the museum was designed by the renowned architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. The Museum of Art is one of the premier cultural attractions in South Florida, attracting over a million visitors every year. It aims at exploring and presenting the broadest spectrum of visual culture at the highest level of quality. The Museum of Art features two floors having over 21,000 sq-ft (1950.9 sq-meters) of exhibition space. The museum is internationally acclaimed for its extensive collection of over 6,000 works, depicting the creative expression of the cultures of the Caribbean and South Florida. This collection comprises of a number of significant works by the contemporary Cuban artists, the artists of the northern European CoBrA movement, and the American artist William Glackens. The permanent exhibitions range from Diana: A Celebration to Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. The Museum also houses the 256-seat Norma and William Horvitz Auditorium. This versatile facility is used for plays, films, lectures, and concerts. The second floor of the Museum houses the 2,800 sq-ft (260.1 sq-meters) Miriam and Bernard Peck Sculpture Terrace, used for sculpture installations. The Museum also hosts the famous Studio Arts Program, which offers several courses in design, drawing, painting, and other disciplines taught by professional artists. The classrooms are situated along the scenic New River, in the Riverfront Complex in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Besides, the Museum also offers the popular Artist in Residence Program that broadens the sphere of conversation about contemporary art.
