Old FlorestaOld Floresta, situated behind the Boca Raton Art School on Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton, Florida, is a residential neighborhood landscaped with several varieties of cycads and palms. It was established by Addison Mizner in 1925. The subdivision was named as Floresta by Hermann Von Holst, the leader of the Chicago owners of the property. The magnificent houses in this neighborhood are best known for their Mediterranean style architecture. These houses feature plain facades of rough-finished stucco; numerous windows and doors; and wrought-iron balconies with wooden pillars. Dining alcoves were substituted by formal dining rooms in the smaller Old Floresta homes. Guided home tours are held twice in each year. Situated to the west of the Dixie Highway and east of I-95, Old Floresta is a desirable East Boca neighborhood. The major tourist attractions nearby include the Boca Raton Resort & Club; the Mizner Park; the cities of Delray Beach and Deerfield Beach; and the Town Center Mall. The neighborhood is also home to a number of tennis parks and a research library. The spectacular El Rio Canal runs along the eastern edge of the neighborhood and offers easy Ocean and Intracoastal access to several adjoining home owners. Custom homes that sell well above a million dollar mark, narrow streets, and lush landscaping give a unique charm to this old neighborhood.
